Our horses have a great life here at Te Taunga living
outdoors as they would naturally
in the wild, with room to move, trees and hills for shelter and fresh
water troughs or creeks. The
majority of our horses are very rarely or never covered so we do not interfere with their natural ability to regulate their own
body temperature. In the winter
our horses enjoy some time-out on
a 70 acre hill to roam around in their herd as they naturally would in the wild. |
|
|||||||
|
|
We try our
best to provide our horses with a stress free life, we believe keeping
our horses in a natural environment
(as often as possible for domesticated horses) helps them live a happy healthy life free from diseases
and viruses that can be common amongst horses that are kept in close confinement,
this fits in well with our organic
farming system and our belief of working with nature not against it. |

|
Here at Te Taunga we believe we have a good team of horses. They all have
plenty of personality and character
so there’s sure to be a horse to suit you. They are not follow the
leader trail riding horses, they are riding
horses, stock horses, Pony Club Mounts and many have been or still are ribbon winning competition horses so
are great all-rounders. Our horses are versatile
and get used on the farm as stock horses as well as being used as riding
horses for clients on adventure rides and for lessons, some still go to
pony club with local children and teenagers, and some still go to the odd
competition. We try our best to match riders with a suitable horse. Not every
horse will suit every person like people some personalities do clash. The
majority of our horses are big but are very placid and gentle with children. |
